Phutureprimitive - Sub Conscious

http://www.myspace.com/phutureprimitive

Origine du Groupe : U.K , North America

Style : Ambient, Chillout, Electro Dub, Electronic , IDM

Sortie : 2004

From http://www.amazon.com

Phutureprimitive is the refreshing musical creation of Oregon-based DJ/Producer, Rain. The Phutureprimitive sound is subterranean electronic tribalism, combining elements of organic downtempo,
ethnic breaks, and sensual atmospherics. Ethereal vocals soar over dubbed-out basslines, and live percussion unfolds over odd time signatures creating a groove that is influenced by the synthetic
textures of psychedelic trance as well as the kinetic grooves of world music. Rain developed a love for electronic music early on, and began to hone his DJ skills in 1992, inspired by the early
trance and goa releases of labels like Eye Q, Dragonfly, and T.I.P. The psychedelic textures embedded in the music of this era continue to be an influence on his production and style.

Not content to just spin music, Rain established the Phutureprimitive Sound Labs in 1996, and began to acquire the equipment and skills required to express himself musically. Expanding and
enhancing the Phutureprimitive aesthetic, Leroy Espiricueta has joined Rain, bringing his talent as a musician and skills as a percussionist to the Labs. The haunting and sensual vocals of Alyssa
Palmer also grace several songs on this album. The sonic primitives are working on music together, and exploring the creative process independently. Something deep and tribal has been growing in
the Labs, unseen and unheard, until now. The first full-length experience from Phutureprimitive is ‘Sub Conscious’ – welcome and right at home, at the headquarters of downtempo and ambient dub -
Waveform Records. A cinematic journey through Sub Conscious sound. Vibration for the imagination. Turn the lights down low - let your mind and body flow. ‘Sub Conscious’ by Phutureprimitive –
another important transmission from Waveform Records.

Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit - Secret Rhythms 4

Origine du Groupe : Germany

Style : Electro Acoustic , Dub , Experimental , Psychedelic

Sortie : 2011

By  themilkman  from http://www.themilkfactory.co.uk

The partnership between German electronic musician Burnt Friedman and legendary Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, established almost ten years ago, is back in action once more, following the 5 7 EP
released last year. This fourth instalment in the Secret Rhythms series continues on a similar path to its predecessors by bringing together rich rhythmic tones and rarefied electronic
formations. More than ever centered around Liebezeit’s hypnotic drumming, Secret Rhythms 4 sees the pair move into more minimal, stripped down terrains, the rhythmic patterns forever more
cyclical, repetitive and fluid, layered with fragments of electronics and guitars, themselves set into loops of varying intensity and length.

Four of the six tracks here go over the ten minute mark, with 182-11 clocking at just under sixteen minutes. This leaves the pair plenty of time to set their rhythmic structures in motion and
work on the trance-like aspect of the groove of each track until it starts distorting the perception of its very nature. So bare is the surrounding soundscapes created by Friedman around
Liebezeit’s overwhelming rhythms that, as tracks progress, it becomes difficult to identify with precision at which exact point one is. For the most of 128-05 for instance, the scope is divided
between Liebezeit’s alternating set of toms and bass drums and a recurring electronic two-tone bass which appears so tightly stuck to the drum patterns that it blends in almost entirely in the
background. Later, the bass is taken up a couple of octaves as Friedman progressively introduces sweeping textures, but this barely affects the hypnotic nature of the piece.

Before it, 204-07 shows a richer sonic space around the core rhythmic structure, although Friedman seems to remain slightly towards the back here, leaving long term collaborator Joseph Suchy, a
member of his Nu Dub Players, on E-Fuzz guitar to occupy the fore. Equally, 182-11 is a much more elaborate and complex piece, which grows over its all course from sparse drum inputs placed over
hazy soundscapes to much drier forms later on as treated guitars are introduced, while 120-05 later is once again criss-crossed with E-Fuzz guitar fragments, this time supplied by Tim Motzer,
giving it a more abrasive feel as the pace picks up.

On the two short tracks, 131-07 and 120-11, the sonic scope is considerably concentrated, which induces an element of urgency other absent of this record. The hectic pace of the former contrasts
with the more subtle progressive tempo of previous pieces, while the latter provides Friedman with the opportunity to develop miniature melodic forms and let them roam free for a moments before
they are ultimately brought back under the implacable control of Liebezeit’s percussions.

It appears that the further Burnt Friedman and Jaki Liebezeit develop their collaboration the more fascinating it gets. Secret Rhythms 4 is a less immediate record than its predecessors, perhaps
due to its barer overall aspect, yet the pair have reached here another level of development here, their understanding and respect of each other’s space allowing them both to perform as equal
whilst occupying very different roles, ultimately making this record their more compelling release yet.

Zhubin Kalhor was born in 1980 from Iranian parents, he started his musical journey at the age of 14, when he started learning to play Daf (the framedrum) and Kamanche (the Iranian fidel) with
the famous Iranian master Ardeshir Kamkar. After having played Persian classical music (radiff) with various masters, he left Iran and settled in Pune, India where he met musicians from all over
the world. Years of playing with musicians trained in different background, like classic Indian, Jazz and Blues, Turkish, Arabic etc. gave Zhubin the opportunity to experiment and find his unique
style.

But to him music is not only a matter of style. It’s about transforming spirituality and the mysteries of life into chemistry with the listener. The last 5 years Zhubin has performed solo and
with various bands in concerts and festivals all over the world, among others with Bahramji, Ahura, Barbad, Pecheurs de Perles, Prem Joshua and the Mystics of Sound and Hawa.

Rajkumar Bikramjit Singh was born into the Royal family of Rajkumar Roton Singh and Yaimabi Devi in the town of Imphal in Manipur februari 65. In 1974 tragedy struck this self confident 8-year
old. An accident left him incapacitated for over a year. Bikram was under closely monitored medical treatment for multiple fractures which he endured after falling off a tree. The shadow cast
over young Bikramjit’s misfortune, prompted his father to gift him with his first flute whiles he convalesced. All that persistent practise paid off: Bikram was just thirteen years old when he
started accompanying singers and other musicians on tours. He played for (AIR) All India Radio that year with some established radio performers. But his real reckoning came when he moved to Pune
to pursue higher studies.

In 1989, Bikram moved to Pune to complete his masters in Archaeology followed by a Ph.D in 1992. However, pretty soon his academic pursuits came to a halt as Bikram dove passionately to pursue
his musical career. He met fellow 'outcast' Zhubin there and discovered their shared spirituality easily overcame the 15 year generation gap and so together they released Himalay.

Their music blends ranging from Iran to India, a carpet weaving are the Northeast. Artist's compositions, where the two partners ranging from local to global album, relaxing at the peak of the
Himalaya Mountains as a break in life. Misty mountains, the villages along the shores of rivers that pour, delicate anklets tinkle in the morning to the sound of the awakening of the image with

A sophisticated, quirky band from Berlin who sing in German, French and English, 17 Hippies have spent 16 years developing an unlikely style that mixes French chanson and German cabaret with
Balkan gypsy music and Americana, with a dash of anything from calypso to Middle Eastern styles thrown in. The Hippies are currently a 12-piece band, and they play anything from accordion to
brass, violin to ukulele and banjo, sounding at times like a cool European answer to the equally hard-to-categorise Pink Martini.

Like those easy-going American mavericks, they are excellent musicians and have a fine female singer, Kiki Sauer, who is at her best here with the gently edgy Ton Étrangère, which matches chanson
with what sounds like the muted backing for a spaghetti western. Elsewhere, singer Dirk Trageser tackles eastern European dance influences on the brass-and-accordion-backed Biese Bouwe; a third
vocalist, Christopher Blenkinsop, echoes Leonard Cohen on Across Waters; and there's a jazzy, brass-and-violin reworking of Captain Beefheart's Gimme Dat Harp Boy. A few more songs from Sauer
would have been welcome, but this is a brave and entertaining global fusion that deserves international success.

absolument pop.

V.A - Psych Funk Sa-Re-Ga!

http://www.stonesthrow.com/uploads/images/product/detail/psych-funk-sa-re-ga.jpg

Origine du Groupe : V.A India

Style : Psychedelic Funk Groove , World Music , Experimental

Sortie : 2010

From http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com

This album gives a rather consistent listen and is an introduction with some examples of the influences of psych and funk into Indian popular music mostly, or in combination in Indian music, most
often this is with a Bollywood music relationship. They have compiled it well although I would have preferred not to have the already over-exposed sitar beat rock track from the German Klaus
Doldinger here. They have also based themselves on other compilations and include a few tracks from these sources, just like on the previously reissued compilations from the label, which for a
part sounds a bit lazy, but because of its fit well together character more easily forgiveable. Essential were of course the Simla Beat tracks, which were already to be found on the Normal
records compilation (from which the Black Beats was very good indeed and the X'Lents instrumental is an essential piece of Indian psychedelia). A whole lecture on their psych-funk theme is
included, although this is just a fragment of their own interests and it is not something of a real historical overview or something overly important for the Indian music itself which had even a
lot more to cover. After the two Simla Beat tracks are a few interesting psych-beat and psych-funk contributions by Kayandji Anandji. R.D.Burmann received already some attention and compilations
in music lover circles. There are a few important crossover mixes added. A nice find is Bappi Lahari's “Everybody dance with me”, an erotic dance pop song with the bass line of IB's
“In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”. Like the compilers say, the Usha Kanna's edited track is a good example of psych-funk, but also a bit short as an idea. Sapan Jagmohan's track sounds equally interesting. A
last psych track is from Atomic Forest from the Obsession LP which I sadly missed, here with a very American heavy psych sound with a cover of a Deep Purple track. Outstandingly different is
Hemant Bhosle (with Asha) with an interesting crossover of 60s psych with cosmo organ mixed with a more recent disco beat. The fact that you can find the front covers of the original albums makes
this compilation also more interesting for your collection. The booklet is more like complete book.
